Sandra “Sandy” Wood

Birth Date: June 28, 1945
Death Date: July 9, 2018

Sandy was born as Sandra Ruth Donovan on June 28, 1945 in Los Angeles, California.  They moved to San Ysidro, California when Sandy was 2 years old, and then to Chula Vista when she was 5 years old so she could start going to Feaster Elementary School.  At Feaster she met three friends that she maintained friendships with all these years and as one of them said, “Sandy was the glue that kept us all together.”  She was the only child of Lillian I. Swanson and John O. Donovan.  She attended Chula Vista High School and graduated in 1963.  She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and proud American.  She was a stay-at-home Mom until the 80’s when she went to work for the US Census Bureau, then various other jobs with Kaman Bearing, Fleet Reserve Association, Hotel Del Coronado, and the County of San Diego until she retired. She and Woody retired in 2005 when they started traveling, which she loved and the world cruise they went on in 2011 was her favorite trip of all. Everywhere they went they always made new friends and would stay in touch. She always said I want to see other places, but I don’t want to live anywhere but home. She called Chula Vista home for 68 years. She is a Past President of the Ladies Axillary of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 61.  Sandy passed away at the age of 73 on July 9, 2018 in Chula Vista, California.  She is survived by her husband, Woody of 35 years; five children; twelve grandchildren and three and a half great-grandchildren; her twelve grand and great grandchildren were an absolute joy for her.  Sandy was loved and cherished by all that knew her and will be missed deeply by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fleet Reserve Association Club 61 would be appreciated.

  1. In Memory of Sandy Wood such a fun and loving and caring friend. I feel so blessed to have had her friendship for all these years.
I have so many great memories of Sandy especially during the time we were neighbors in Chula Vista. I so remember how she loved Christmas and would decorate every room in her house.. She always looked out for us and all our kids.
To you Woody, Cheryl and Deanna and all of her family and friends .. The one thing that helps me when a loved one passes on is this thought that I believe with all my heart to be true is that we will all be together again someday. May God Bless you all.. Love, Helen Millhone

  2. To the family of Sandy Wood. My family sends their deepest sympathy to you. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to you. Acts 24 verse 15.
