Aldan Duane Gomez
July 31, 1936 - February 19, 2022
Duane was a beautiful man and had such a great spirit -- kind, honest, honorable, loving, great sense of humor, strong in his faith and had an exceptional moral compass. He loved life and had no regrets. He was born on July 31, 1936 to Billie Eulerah and Arthur Aldan Gomez in Tuolomne, California. In 1941, at the age of 5, the family moved to San Diego. He attended Andrew Jackson Elementary School, Hoover High School and San Diego State University. Duane joined the California National Guard right out of high school as a radar specialist, serving 8 1/2 years while finishing college. In 1959, he graduated with a major in Physics and a minor in Chemistry, just two courses short of getting a major in math. While attending college, his working career began at Cubic as an electronics technician. Later he went to work as an electronics engineer at Stromberg Carlson, Straza Industries, Grossmont College (electronics engineering teacher), and then he worked for the U.S. Navy at a Research and Development Laboratory on Point Loma, retiring at 63 years of age. Duane, 85, passed away on February 19, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Ginny Gomez; sister Joan McGuire and brother Darryl Gomez; six step-children Susan Tawadros, Louis Rubidoux, Natalie Duran, Leo Rubidoux, John O'Connell, and Julie Watts; and thirteen grandchildren. He was loved by all and will forever be missed.
