Annie Martinez
April 22, 1940 - May 5, 2022
Annie Martinez, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called by God on May 5. She had just celebrated her 82nd birthday on April 22 with family and had been in very good spirits. She did not suffer and was surrounded by her family when she passed. Annie was born in 1940 in Belton, Texas and moved to San Diego in 1957 with her husband, Pete, also of Belton. Annie and Pete were married for an amazing 66 years and together, they raised five children – Melinda, Alfred, Lorenzo, Elena and Gloria – and a beautiful grandchild, Naomi. In more recent years, they welcomed their adopted daughter, Michelle, into their lives and have enjoyed spending time with their great grandchildren, A.J. and Jude. While raising a family of five kept her very busy, Annie worked as a housekeeper and eventually started a janitorial services business with Pete, which they ran together for many years until their retirement. Annie loved spending time with family and loved ones, playing card games, making crochet blankets, and sewing with her friends at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Lemon Grove. She also loved watching the Padres. She rarely missed a game and her daughters always joked that calling Annie during a Padres broadcast was never a good idea. “Shorty,” we love you and already miss you so much. But it’s heartening to know you are now in heaven with beloved family and friends who have gone before you and that we all will be seeing you again someday. To honor Annie, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -- https://www.stjude.org/ Funeral Service: May 19 at 11 am , St John of the Cross Catholic Church, 8086 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945 Reception to follow at: BLVD/Boulevard Hall, 4265 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego CA, 92105
