Charlyne was born on June 6, 1935, in San Diego, California, to Charles & Henryne Oslin. She was the 1st of 2 Children. Charlyne was the mother of two children Gary Schelton and Gail Randi. She attended San Diego High School and graduated from San Diego City College. She was employed at San Diego Gas and Electric Company from 1963 to 1985 (Customer Svc Division). She was a true San Diegan. She’ll be remembered for her thoughtful, caring, unselfish, non-pretentious attitude, her beautiful smile, laughter that would light up the room and her love for children. During her life Charlyne was an active member of Christ The King Catholic Church for 76 yrs. of faithful service. She also was a Board Member of the Children’s Home Society of California, including State Conference Chair, two term President Las Munecas Auxiliary of The Children’s Home Society, Member of the San Diego Museum of Art, The African Arts Committee Treasurer, Member of the Tema Sister City Society and President of the San Diego Gas and Electric Company’s Old Timers Association. Charlyne was always on the go. She travelled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Well known as a “Party Thrower”. So Kind, so loving, so genuine she always had a place in her heart for others. A woman of wonderful taste. She Loved GOD. Being sure to celebrate “Black Catholic Month” every November since 1990. Charlyne Lemetta Oslin-Smith, of La Mesa, California, departed peacefully on June 2, 2022, she was 86 years old. She was preceded in death by her sister Nan R. Southern, brother William A. Scott. Parents, Charles & Henryne Oslin. Charlyne is remembered and celebrated by her son, Gary, Foster City, CA. daughter Gail, San Diego, CA. daughter in law Debra, Foster City, CA. granddaughter Ginza, Foster City, CA. Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, Chris McCrary, Dina, Marlene, Michael, Darcel, Rachelle, Marsha, Edward, extended family. It was more important than the circumstances. It was more important than failures or successes. It was more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. Attitude to her was more important than the past, than what other people think, say or do. She would make the remarkable choice everyday regarding the attitude she would embrace for that day.
