Luz E. Gonzalez

Luz Ester Gonzalez, 90, was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on September 3rd, 1931. She was one of eight siblings born to her parents Antonio Gonzalez of Obiedo, Spain and Maria Christina Matos, of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Luz passed away on May 15th, 2022 surrounded by her three children Beatriz Caro, Luz Caridad Freed, and Rodolfo Piñero. Luz spent her childhood in Santo Domingo, the daughter of a popular fabric store owner. In her teens, she immigrated to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico where she attended and graduated from high school. In 1949 Luz, along with her family, once again immigrated to New York City and made a home in the Hunts Point neighborhood of The Bronx where all four of her children, Rodolfo, Beatriz, Luz, and Armando Piñero were born and raised. Upon retiring from a decades long career as a retail factory worker, Luz joined her daughter and son in San Diego, California where she is currently resting peacefully. Luz is survived by five siblings, three children, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, whom she dedicated her life to. She was truly the light of the family, quick to laugh and eager to love. She will forever be remembered as a loving abuela and dedicated mom. Services for Luz will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 10:30am in Greenwood Memorial Park. Era una de ocho hermanos nacidos de sus padres Antonio González de Obiedo, España y María Cristina Matos, de Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. Luz falleció el 15 de mayo de 2022 rodeada de sus tres hijos Beatriz Caro, Luz Caridad Freed y Rodolfo Piñero. Luz pasó su infancia en Santo Domingo, hija del dueño de una tienda de telas. En su adolescencia, emigró a Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, donde asistió y se graduó de la escuela secundaria. En 1949, Luz, junto con su familia, una vez más emigró a la ciudad de Nueva York y se estableció en el vecindario de Hunts Point en el Bronx, donde nacieron y se criaron sus cuatro hijos, Rodolfo, Beatriz, Luz y Armando Piñero. Al retirarse de una carrera de décadas como trabajadora de una factoria fábrica, Luz se unió a su hija y su hijo en San Diego, California, donde actualmente descansa en paz. A Luz le sobreviven cinco hermanos, tres hijos, nueve nietos y 11 bisnietos, a quienes dedicó su vida. Ella era verdaderamente la luz de la familia, rápida para reír y ansiosa por amar. Siempre será recordada como una abuela cariñosa y una madre dedicada. Los servicios para Luz se llevarán a cabo el jueves 26 de mayo a las 10:30 am en Greenwood Memorial Park.
