September 9, 1950 - January 18, 2022
Mrs. Susan Scholfield Faber, 71 of San Diego, Ca, passed away in her home on January 18th 2022 after many years battling Rheumatoid Arthritis, and her recent small cell lung, and liver cancer. Susie was born September 9th, 1950 to the late Loren W. and Alice Scholfield in Ontario Ca, and was the 2nd oldest of four daughters. She Graduated from San Diego State in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in social science, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity. After college Susie worked as a career aid in a local junior high where she taught job skills, so her students, could prepare themselves for the real world. Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at a young age would be her biggest challenge, and thru numerous surgeries always kept a positive, and friendly attitude. She survived breast cancer, and started to make beautiful hats and helped start a company called, Stylish Noggins. Susie created beautiful hats for women experiencing hair loss with chemotherapy. As a volunteer, she helped run the cancer support group at Sharp Hospital in Kearny Mesa and along with other women created a safe haven where laughter and hugs replaced fear and tears. Susie was the kind of person who would complement a stranger on something she noticed, and would get a compliment back for her stylish hat. Susie could not resist a hug when she met you. It came natural, and she never questioned why. Susie met and married Doug Faber in 1977 and would grow fond of her nickname “ BOO. “ They cared for each other for 44 wonderful and medically challenging years. Together they owned a landscape company, and she developed muscles and built stamina before the R/A pain forced her to stop. Soroptimist International San Diego noticed her and she was presented with their Ruby award in 2010 for outstanding women to women support. Susie will be greatly missed by those she touched with her caring, how can I help you attitude. Now, free from the diseases that prevented her from joining in on many activities, she can dance, and create a new flower garden like the one in her backyard. She is preceded in death by her parents Loren and Alice Scholfield and sister Sandra Plunkett, and nephew Matthew Blount. Susie is survived by her loving husband Doug Faber, sisters Sharon Scholfield, her husband Craig Twitchell, Shelly Russell her husband Tim, nephew Dr. Andrew Blount, Kenneth Plunkett, Corey Russell, niece Kamay Abel and husband Tyler, and Claire Russell, In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation is requested.
