Thomas Megow
October 5, 1941 - January 12, 2022
Thomas Megow was born on October 5th, 1941 in Wisconsin to Mary and Harold Megow. Always a deeply spiritual person, when he was old enough, Tom left home to join the seminary. Before taking his vows however, he joined the US Navy as an electrician to support his country during the Vietnam War. While serving on the USS Ranger, an aircraft carrier in the pacific fleet, he visited much of Asia including The Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan. He’d tell Navy stories for the rest of life, generally the same ones over and over with small details added or omitted here and there, but he’d tell them. It was not long before his Naval enlistment ended Tom met his wife Betty. They were married and had their first son, Peter. Shortly after the birth of his son, Tom left the Navy. Following a brief stay in Alameda, CA, the young family packed up and moved to San Diego. In San Diego, Tom and Betty bought a house in City Heights, and had their second son, Joseph. Tom got a job working for Greenwood Cemetery, where he sold cemetery property door to door for the next 2+ decades. If anyone asked how business was, he’d always give the same answer: “Dead”. He always liked a good joke, but he LOVED a bad one. In retirement, Tom and Betty enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, and more frequently, Las Vegas. He loved the excitement of the casino. He was also very proud of his children and grandchildren. Tom Passed away January 12th, He is survived by his sister Mary, brother Dan, sons: Peter and Joseph, and his grandchildren: Gwendolyn, Amelia, Genevieve, and Maddie. We love him and will keep him in our hearts forever.
