I will always fondly remember Dr. Ginkel. He gave me my first Airman's Medical Certificate over 30 years ago. And I went to him every year after that until I took a hiatus from flying for 17 years after I was married. Getting the opportunity to return to flying in 2001 I returned to Dr. Ginkel for my certificates each year until his passing. I occasionally visit his office and just sit in the parking lot thinking about him. He was always so kind and fun to talk aviation with. He was very much interested in my choice of aviation which was helicopters. Sorry I was never able to give him a ride.Sitting in the lot I wondered what would happen to all his medical records including mine. I called the real estate agent and asked if someone could contact. Eventually one of his sons called me and said they would be disposed of. I was just getting ready to take of with some clients on a flight and didn't get to chat with him about his dad. Sorry we weren't able to chat and thanks for calling me back. At one of my visits to his office after his passing, I noticed his name plate was still on the door. I almost grabbed a screwdriver to take it, but I knew that would be wrong. I hope someone in the family has it and will treasure it. As Richard mentioned he dearly missed his wife. I called him one day to setup an appointment and as we were chatting he broke down and cried. He again cried at our appointment. He truly loved her deeply. I asked him one day if he should retire who he would recommend as a doctor for my medical certificate and he said Dr. Esteb who I believe is now in his 90's and will be giving me a new certificate in December (I hope). Thank you Dr. Ginkel for being the wonderful person you are and I'm looking forward to spending eternity with you, meeting your lovely wife and swapping stories about our dogs and aircraft!
