Ada Emelia Osborn's Obituary
Chula Vista – It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Ada. Ada was the first daughter born to Danish immigrants Edgar and Petra Johansen. Ada had an older brother and 5 younger siblings, a sister and four brothers. In her early years, she was responsible for caring for her younger siblings while her mother worked. The family lived on Moss Street near 4th Avenue. Ada attended F Street Elementary school in Chula Vista and graduated from Sweetwater High School. Ada fell in love with Aulmann “Ollie” Osborn, who also lived on Moss Street. They were married in 1935 and continued to live on Moss Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenue. They bought a Chevy in 1937 and enjoyed Sunday drives with their growing family. In addition to raising their four children, Ada sewed nearly all the clothing for the family, had an extensive garden and she raised chickens. In the mid 1940’s, Ada and Ollie built a larger house that Ada designed which would better accommodate their family. This house was located on Moss Street between Third and Fourth Avenue and just across the street from Ada’s mother’s home. Many of Ada and Ollie’s siblings also lived on Moss Street with their families. Ada, Ollie and their children spent a lot of time with their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, forming close bonds that continue to this day. In addition to her immediate and extended family, Ada made and kept many friends throughout her life. Her life was always very busy with card games, lunches or dinners out, family gatherings, traveling, cooking wonderful meals, baking and most of all, playing golf. She enjoyed playing in tournaments and won many trophies while playing with the Bonita Women’s Golf Club. After 52 years of marriage, Ollie passed away and Ada moved away from Moss Street to a condo near the Chula Vista Golf Course trail. When she wasn’t walking the trail herself, she could often be seen on her patio greeting those on the trail while enjoying a glass of wine. It was while living in Bonita that Ada married an old family friend, Sheridan Hawkins. They enjoyed travel and Sheridan spoiled Ada by doing all the house work. After Sheridan’s passing, Ada married Julius Skinner, a fellow avid golf player. By this time, Ada was in her early 90’s, but she still enjoyed getting out with Julius and playing a round of golf. After Julius’ passing, Ada again found love with Fred Hackenburg. Ada and Fred enjoyed traveling and spending time with their combined families. Ada lived a very full and active life for all of her 104 years. She played golf until she was 96 and continued to walk two miles along the Chula Vista Golf Course trail at 100. Her vitality and love of people attracted many friends that she made and kept throughout her life. When asked how she had made it to 104 years old, she would say she believed in eating fresh fruits and vegetables along with daily exercise and a glass of red wine. Before her passing, Ada expressed her anticipation of being greeted in heaven by Ollie and her son Harold (“Pete”). She is survived and missed by her sons Wes (Grace) and Gary (Susan), daughter Bonnie Wolfe (Neil), 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.
