Lawrence, Ambrose William's Obituary
Ambrose William Lawrence Sr. was born on April 19, 1940, in Newalla, Oklahoma to Oscar and
Zella Lawrence. Ambrose lived a life marked by devotion, service and love. He was a man of humble
spirit and unwavering dedication, whose humor and love uplifted the spirts of all who knew him.
On January 22, 1960, Ambrose proudly joined the United States Navy, where he served his country
with honor and distinction. His time in the navy shaped him into the strong, resourceful, and
resilient man he was, instilling in him a deep sense of duty and commitment to others.
After his military service, Ambrose met and married Eula Jefferson on October 2, 1965. This union
was blessed with 4 children Tamekia, Ambrose Jr., Gayle and Sherri. Ambrose dedicated himself to
being a provider and caretaker for his family and community, working as a sanitation worker in the
city of San Diego for many years. Despite the long hours and hard work, he always found time for
one of his true passions---gardening. His garden was a reflection of his care, diligence, and
commitment to providing for his family. His family and friends cherished the fruits and vegetables,
including peaches, collard greens and okra that flourished under his skilled hands.
Known for his sharp wit, captivating humor, and handsome charm, Ambrose had a presence that
left lasting impressions and made him unforgettable. His family was his greatest joy, and he never
wavered in his support for them. Whether through a word of advice, quick-witted joke or homecooked meal, he was always there, offering his love in the simplest, most profound ways.
On September 9, 2024, Ambrose passed away peacefully enveloped in love of his family and in the
comfort of his home in San Diego CA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years Eula
Lawrence, his parents Oscar and Zella Lawrence, and his siblings: Earnest, Wallace, Hoover, Jake,
Ezra, Luberta and Vella.
Above all, Ambrose was a devoted family man. He was married to his beloved wife, Eula Lawrence
for 47 years. Together they built a loving home filled with laughter, soulful food, memories and four
children --- Tamekia Lawrence, Ambrose Lawrence Jr., Gayle Lawrence and Sherri Lawrence, and a
cherished grandfather to 5 grandchildren --- Tracion Davis, Ashley Jones-Shaughnessy(Brendan),
Alexys Lawrence, Alyssa Lawrence and Devan Lawrence who were the light of his life, all of which
live on to cherish his memories along with his sisters Arnell Lawrence and Debra Buchanan, and
brothers Morris Lawrence and MacArthur Lawrence and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered, though peace is brought to the remaining family
knowing that Ambrose and Eula are now once again reunited, where they will continue their journey
together, in the depth and warmth of their love.
