Andrew Scott Keevil's Obituary
Our beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend died peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015. Andrew was born on June 25, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Albert Sydney and Marilyn McDaniel Keevil. He joined older sisters, Karen and Pam. The family moved to San Diego, California when Andrew was nine years of age. After the move to California, Andrew’s younger brother, Stephen, joined the family. Andrew graduated from Mission Bay High School in 1971. He attended Mesa Community College and received his Associates’ Degree. On October 9, 1976, Andrew was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His testimony of the gospel and belief in Jesus Christ served as the foundation for Andrew’s life. He attended Brigham Young University and served an LDS mission in Portland, Oregon. Andrew was hired as a LAN Administrator for Mitchell International in 1989 and was employed there for 18 years when his health no longer allowed him to work. Andrew married Cathleen Calamia West on March 26, 1987 in Pacific Beach. They welcomed their only child, Jonathan Andrew Calamia, on April 13, 1989. They were eternally sealed together as a family in the Los Angeles Temple on February 22, 1990. After being diagnosed with Leukemia only one week earlier, Cathleen died on Christmas morning in 1997, leaving Andrew to raise their nine year old boy. Andrew and Jonathan became inseparable as father and son, and as friends. Jon unselfishly cared for his dad for many years as his health declined due to diabetes and kidney failure. Andrew loved his church and he loved God and Jesus Christ. As long as he was able and despite many physical challenges, he came to church to share his testimony with the members of his congregation. He especially wanted the children in his congregation to know that he was grateful for the life he had been given and that there is always joy to be found even when we face our trials. In addition to Cathleen, Andrew was predeceased by his father, Albert. He leaves behind his mother, Marilyn Keevil, and siblings Karen Keevil, Pam Keevil, Stephen Keevil, in addition to two nephews and a niece. Most importantly, he leaves behind Jonathan, for whom he lived. He left his earthly home only when he was assured that all would be well with Jonathan, and with the knowledge that together with Cathleen, they are a forever family. Jonathan would like to thank the many kind friends and caregivers who were so kind and helpful to Andrew in the last years of his life. He is especially grateful to Andrew’s sister, Karen, who moved into Andrew’s home to assist him with his many needs. Funeral services will be held for Andrew on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church; 11023 Pegasus, San Diego, CA 92106. There will be a viewing at the church prior to the service, from 12 noon to 12:40. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Greenwood Mortuary; 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Andrew’s name to either the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/DonateToday, or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org/
