Angela Marie Berry's Obituary
Angela Berry, beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 96 and 4 months on August 27. 2025. Born on April 19, 1929, in New Jersey to Carmela and Sebastian La Spina, Angie grew up during the Great Depression and knew firsthand the meaning of hard work and sacrifice. As a child, she helped on her parents’ farm, often selling vegetables, instilling in her a lifelong work ethic and resilience.
In her early twenties, Angela met the love of her life, Tony Berry, and the two were married on December 2, 1951. They first made their home in Hoboken, New Jersey, where their son Frank was born in 1953. When Tony’s respiratory condition required a drier climate, the young family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1956. Once settled, their daughter, Marion, was born in 1959 in San Diego completing their family.
Angela dedicated herself to creating a warm, welcoming, and spotless home. She delighted in decorating for the holidays, filling her house with festive touches and a sense of celebration. Angie was also known for her sense of humor, even when it came to life’s little disruptions. One memorable story involves her mother tossing a greasy piece of chicken across Angie’s freshly polished floor to appease a begging cat. To everyone’s surprise, instead of erupting, Angie simply let it go—a rare moment of levity that revealed her ability to choose peace over perfection.
Family gatherings were central to Angie’s life, and she believed no problem was too great that it couldn’t be softened by a good meal. Her holiday tables overflowed with delicious dishes, with her signature lasagna always taking center stage. She enjoyed entertaining, meeting with friends and family whenever possible, and playing spirited games of pinochle, canasta, and her family’s favorite marble game, “aggravation.” Laughter was never far away—during one card game, Angie had to excuse herself, but found herself laughing so hard at her own predicament that she led the entire group into uncontrollable tears of joy.
Beneath her strong and sometimes fiery exterior, Angie was a deeply caring woman who gave generously of herself. She showed unwavering devotion to Tony during his years of illness, tending to him with patience and sacrifice until his passing. In later years, Angie found joy and amusement at the Barona Casino in Ramona, California, where she would spend hours at the slot machines, always hoping for that “big win.”
Angela will be remembered as a formidable woman—gritty, determined, and resilient. She persevered through life’s hardships with strength and grace, all while making sure her family and friends were cared for. Her legacy is one of perseverance, laughter, and love, and she leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, and extended family who will forever treasure her example of hard work, strength, and generosity. Angela Berry’s story is one of endurance, devotion, and love—a life fully lived and deeply cherished.
Marie
