Ann Trompas' Obituary
Ann Trompas (Antiopi) was born in Karlovasi, Samos, Greece on April 6, 1926. She was the 3rd of five daughters of Kleanthis and Christodouli Parianos. Growing up on Samos (“the most beautiful island in the world” as she described it to everyone) she experienced poverty, typhoid disease, as well as life as a refugee in Egypt during World War II. Her uncle, Nick Parianos, brought her to America in 1955, where she joined her sisters in San Diego. She married native San Diegan, Jimmy Trompas, in 1957, and then they raised their two daughters, Christine and Maria, in a traditional Greek-American home. With the help of her husband, Antiopi achieved the goals she dreamed of - she learned the English language, she learned how to drive a car, became an American citizen, and immersed herself in the American life. She was active in the Greek Orthodox Church community, was always interested in making new friends, learning new things, and sharing her stories of the past with others. Antiopi persevered through many challenges in life, but always expressed her gratitude to those who helped change her life. She loved her homeland of Greece, and would go back to visit her parents; but, she was very proud to be an American and never tired of saying “God Bless America.” Antiopi is survived by her children Christine (and Nektarios) Tradas, Maria (and Donald) Stokes, and her grandchildren, Nyssa Stokes and Alexander Stokes. Her grandchildren meant the world to her, and nothing brought her greater joy than helping raise to them and spending time with them as they grew into young adults. She lived an active and mostly healthy 96+ years on this earth, and passed away peacefully on October 8, 2022, surrounded by her family. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to her favorite non-profit organization: Ladies of Philoptochos Society, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 3655 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92103
