Anna Belle Huff's Obituary
Anna Belle Huff was born on July 6, 1938 to Neville and Ophelia Johnson; both of whom preceded her in death. She hails from New Iberia, Louisiana and attended Henderson high school where she was revered as an avid basketball player amongst her peers. She graduated from Henderson high school in 1956.
Anna met Carey Huff Jr. while he was stationed in Louisiana with the Navy. The two were inseparable and smitten with each other from day one. They were married on a beautiful day, March 6, 1963, in New Iberia, Louisiana. As a wife of a Sailor, Anna lived in several places. However, it was when she arrived to San Diego, CA, by way of the Navy in 1968, where she and her family would plant roots and build a wonderful life.
Anna was a go-getter with an entrepreneurial spirit. She attended and graduated from cosmetology school in 1974. Her passion for the beauty industry pushed her to continue her educational journey and she earned an Associate Degree from City College in 1976.
Anna became a small business owner when she bought the House of Charm beauty salon. She was a trailblazer in the beauty industry for over 40 years. Her gift of making women feel beautiful with the stroke of a hot comb, always brightened her smile. After her 40-year tenure in the beauty industry Anna retired and worked part-time as a culinary server at SCPA High School.
She was an active member of her community and belonged to several community organizations, including the Mother Club and CCLEC. She joined Grace Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. H.L. Ferrell. There she was an active and faithful member of the Choir and served on the Mission Board.
As a new retiree Anna spent her time traveling with her family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and other fun hobbies as a member of the George Stevens Senior Citizen Center.
Anna was called home on January 7, 2021.
Anna was a beautiful soul whose smile would light up a room. She was preceded in death by her husband Carey Huff Jr., her brother Neville Johnson Sr., her sister Dorothy Mae Cole (Eugene), and her son-in-law Cornelius Fancher. Jr. Her legacy continues on through her companion Sam Taylor, her sister Susie Mae Teel, her children; Chinesakeal Gilbert, Theodosia Ballard (Alonzo), Karen Huff, Jackie Fancher, Carey Huff III (Yvette), and Lasheka Turner, her grandchildren; John Jackson Jr. (Jessica), Jaquetta Gooden (Jermaine), Kayonni Jones (Kenneth Sr.), Isaiah Jackson, Arieana Huff, Angelique Huff, and Cordelia Fancher, her great-grandchildren; Jourdain and Jyson Jackson, Leilani, Nevaeh and Jay’Shaun Gooden, Kenneth Jr., Kassidy, Kaylee, and Karmen Jones, a host of nieces and nephews, and an abundance of close family friends.
