Arthur Henry Drown - Born December 29, 1929 Died - December 23, 2024
Arthur Henry Drown was born December 29, 1929 in San Diego, California. The son of Katherine (Kirsch) Drown and George Henry Drown. He attended school in San Diego, California and graduated from Hoover High School in San Diego in 1949. He was on the alumni committee and made decisions on scholarships for students that earned them.
On June 25, 1950 he married Evaline Hayes to which two daughters were born, Ineta June & Donna Kay. After graduation, he honorably served in the Navy for 4 years. On April 5, 1958 he married June( Walker) Smith. He was married for 35 years and during this time he helped to raise June's daughter, Carole. Art was employed by General Dynamics in the Convair division from Nov. 25, 1954 until his retirement in Nov. 29, 1993. At this time June was very ill & Art retired to care for her. June passed away in May of 1994.
During the time they were married they belonged to the T. & T. camping club were they spent lots of time camping with their friends. It was after June's death, Art met Joan Jackson from London, England at the camping group. They were married Aug 24, 1996.
They raised avocados for a time in central California then moved back to Art's house in Lemon Grove where they continued to live until his passing. They loved to travel and one of the places they liked to go quite frequently was to, Abu Dhabi where they had many friends, that still remain very close.
Arthur was an Eagle Scout and helped with the Boy Scouts most of his life. He was a member of the Elks Club of El Cajon and sang in the men's choir for many years. He was also a member of the VFW of Lemon Grove. His favorite hobby was gardening, which he did until he could no longer take care of his beautiful cacti and fruit trees. Another hobby was restoring old cars. He restored a 1967 Ford Fairlane that won him first place in the Elks car show. He really enjoyed driving this car! He also liked to fix things and work with wood. Always working on something. His favorite pastime was watching Old Westerns on T. V.
He was a loving and kind man who was always willing to give to charity. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Especially his family.
Arthur is survived by his Wife, Joan of Lemon Grove, Daughter, Ineta Frey & Husband, Ron of Eldora, Iowa ; Daughter, Donna Kay Goforth & Husband Dennis of Rhome, Texas and Step-Daughter, Carole Ryan-Steinauer of Santee, California. He was preceded in death by his brother Howard & wife Diane and June Drown.
10 Grand children, 26 Great Grandchildren and 8 Great Great Grandchildren
