Augusta Helen Knechtel's Obituary
Augusta Helen, only daughter of Gus and Lillian Mueller was born March 26, 1913 in Alma, Kansas and passed away January 26, 2018 She was educated at Stephens College, Columbia, MO., and Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas where she was a member of Mui Phi Epsilon, Honorary music sorority.She married Alton S. Knechtel in 1936. They had no children. As a Navy Officer he was stationed in Washington DC and Augusta Helen worked as a secretary in the office of Congressman Walt Horan, Republican of Washington State for six years. As the Navy sent Alton to other billets on the east coast, Augusta Helen became a Red Cross volunteer, accumulating over 40 years service with them before retiring and beginning to volunteer in the office of the local Meals on Wheels group which she continued until May of 2012.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and is survived by many friends, nieces and cousins. She was a member of the Community Congregational Church, the Chula Vista Women’s Club and the Salvation Army Auxiliary.Cremation has been planned with ashes to be scattered at sea.Celebration of Life to be held March 18, 2018 at 2 P.M.Community Congregational Church276 F Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910
