Augustine Herrera's Obituary
Augustine Herrera, 85, passed away just after 12:00 p.m. on July 7, 2015 at the Pacifica House in Carlsbad immediately after a prayer and loving words from his lifelong partner, companion, and dedicated wife, Felisa Herrera, who never left his side. He was born August 19, 1929 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The son of Cresencio and Theodora Herrera. He resided in San Diego since 1953. He served in the armed forces during the Korean Conflict on a destroyer in the Navy. Proceeding his service in the armed forces, he owned his own barber shop, worked for the City of La Mesa, and owned his own restaurant (Southern Chef Smorgasbord), and retired from Border Patrol as a maintenance worker in 1997. On February 6, 1953, he married Felisa Montano in Yuma, Arizona. She survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Jessie, Edward, and Francisco (Frank) Herrera; two daughters, Anna Boone and Rosa Hatcher; three brothers Peter, Richard, and Sammy Herrera; three sisters, Josephine Guathier, Patricia (Vickie) Herrera, and Clementina Strong; Six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He has been a member of St. John of the Cross for nearly 50 years and has served the church as an usher and volunteer for most of those years. Viewing and Rosary will be held from 6:00p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at Greenwood Memorial Park. Church service will be held the following day, Friday, July 17 at St. John of the Cross. The burial will immediately follow the mass at Greenwood Memorial Park. He will be remembered for his kind spirit and his passion for life. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.During his final weeks, he smiled and said, “I have everything right here (as he motioned his hands towards his family).
