Barbara Ann McMahand's Obituary
Barbara Ann McMahand was born on May 30, 1944 in San Diego to Wallace Tate and Elinor Alvarez.
Throughout her life, she has lived in San Diego, National City, Spring Valley, Yuma, AZ, and Carson City, NV. She attended Gompers Middle School and graduated with a diploma from Crawford High School.
After graduation, she met, and later married Jerry McMahand on June 1, 1963. She became a stay-at-home mom to her four boys, Dwayne, Travis, Wade, and Keith. Barbara worked as a volunteer at Rancho Elementary School while raising her sons.
When the boys were grown, Barbara became a cook at Mt. Miguel Covenant Village in Spring Valley. Barbara dedicated her life to helping others. She volunteered to support her communities through church service through St. John of the Cross in Lemon Grove, CA; St. Thomas Yuma Indian Mission in Winterhaven, CA; and St. Mary in the Mountains in Virginia City, NV. Barbara also spent time assisting friends and family in the communities she lived in.
Barbara met many friends throughout her life including her close friends, Gerry Boothe and Linda Charisma.
She was loving, caring, thoughtful, happy, silly, and faithful. Marrying her husband Jerry was one of the most important events of her life. She enjoyed the birth of each of her sons, her grandchildren, and her great grandson. Barbara noted that she was happy to have lived a life where she was able to see the men her sons turned out to be.
She loved cooking, laughing, dancing, and enjoying the sunshine with Jerry. Her encouragement to those of us who have known and loved her is to, “Just be happy for me.”
She is survived by her loving husband Jerry McMahand, her sons Dwayne McMahand and his wife Crystal, Travis McMahand and his wife Jackie, Wade McMahand and his wife Brandi, Keith McMahand and his wife Joan, and their families; and her brother Burt Tate and his family.
