Barbara Jo Miller's Obituary
God called our beloved Barbara Jo Miller-Steward home on December 26, 2018. Barbara was born on December 27, 1949 in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was the only girl born to Nathaniel and Clara Leath. Barbara was blessed to grow up with a house full of brothers; 6 to be exact. In time the family moved out West to San Diego where Barbara attended Lincoln High School and became a proud Hornet. After high school Barbara started her own family while working for NCR and Biosafety Technology. In her younger days, she was most known to her friends as being non-Certified Race Car Driver who was known to put the pedal to metal! While celebrating her 40th Birthday with her best friend Linda she met the love of her life Leroy. After leaving Biosafety she would go onto work for Sony and eventually retire from Qualcomm. Barbara picked up her cooking and sewing skills from her mother and grandmother but her shopping abilities were all self-taught. If there was any type of good sale she was there! “Shopping till you drop” was not a figure a speech when anyone spoke about Barbara. She would literally shop till she dropped. Going out to clubs with friends, zooming around town in her 280z, taking walks and eating dinner down on Harbor Island with Leroy were among many other things that brought her happiness. When her mother, Clara, was called to rest Barbara would fill her shoes in becoming the family patriarch. Hosting parties for special occasions and always bringing family together was something her sons will always remember about her. Everyone who knew Barbara could tell her favorite holiday was Christmas because she always had an abundance of fabulous decorations on display in front of her house. Every year she welcomed everyone into her home cooking them a giant feast and providing every single person a gift to open. Taking a plate home was always expected of her guests and if someone could not attend she made sure they were hand delivered a homemade cake or pie. When God called Barbara to his heavenly home she was reunited with her grandmother, mother, two fathers, eldest brother and other loved ones. Barbara leaves behind her Husband Leroy Steward, five brothers; Carl, Vernard, and Michael Leath and Tommy and Craig Spriggs, five sons; Jamel and Farley Miller, Eric Moore, Kenneth Murray and Nathaniel Steward; three daughter in laws Elaine Miller, Stephanie Murray and Chitquita Gray; 20 Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
