Barbara Ann Osuna, born on November 7th, 1944, in San Diego, CA, was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life journey was marked by love, resilience, and devotion to her family and career.
Barbara's early years were spent in San Diego, where she was raised by her parents, Arthur E. and Bernice Berendes, alongside her brother Arthur A. Berendes. In 1961, she married Octavio Osuna, with whom she shared two children, Richard Aaron and Theresa Ann.
In Alameda, CA, Barbara embarked on a career journey, initially as a secretary for Acorn Plumbing. Despite not having a college degree, her exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills propelled her into the accounting and bookkeeping realm within the plumbing and construction industry. Barbara and her family returned to San Diego where she worked for various companies, including Kitzman’s Plumbing and Hale and Sons Plumbing, where her dedication and competence earned her admiration and success.
Barbara's professional path intertwined with her personal life when she began working for the Ries Family at Ries Construction. Barbara's commitment to her work was unparalleled, continuing until shortly before her passing.
In 1985, Barbara faced the devastating loss of her son, Richard Aaron, in a tragic accident. Despite the profound grief, she demonstrated remarkable resilience.
Barbara's life was enriched by the presence of Delano Hale, whom she considered the love of her life. Their relationship was marked by a deep and special bond, characterized by love, companionship, and shared experiences. Despite never formalizing their union through marriage, Barbara and Delano's connection transcended conventional labels, as they journeyed through life together, hand in hand.
Barbara had a zest for life, enjoying activities such as off-roading in Gordon’s Well and Baja, traveling, shopping, collecting artwork and memorabilia, and indulging in the finer things in life. She particularly relished ski trips to Lake Tahoe and visits to Las Vegas, where she created lasting memories with her family.
Above all, Barbara treasured her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy and priority, and she showered them with love, support, and unwavering dedication. Her impeccable work ethic and strength served as inspirations to her loved ones, who continue to carry her legacy of love and resilience in their hearts.
Barbara Ann Osuna is survived by her daughter, Theresa Mustard, her three grandchildren Jessica Bloom, Jared Mustard, and Jennay Gardella, and her seven great-grandchildren Mason, Wyatt, Demi, Maclain, Logan, Declan, and Cooper. Though she is deeply missed, her spirit lives on through the love and memories she shared with her family.
Funeral services to honor Barbara's life will be held at Greenwood Memorial on March 12th, 2024, at 10 am.
