As one of the Erin Lane Family I can attest to the wonderful afternoons when we gathered under that pine tree. As well as the fun times in the desert riding dirt bikes with the Family. That was indeed the village we raised our family in. Barney and Donnie will long be loved and remembered by the friends and family left behind. As Barney's (I called him Jim) future sister-in-law, Tom and I spent many evenings with Jim and Donnie in their cozy home in Poway, mostly talking. When Tom got out of the Navy, he lived with Jim and Donnie. Whenever i called to talk to Tom, Jim would answer and, not being able to tell their voices apart-I made several dates with Jim instead of Tom!! Finally I became suspicous whenever I spoke to him! He was a great kidder! I will miss his teasing and his kind heart! Diane Oldfield

Whenever I think of Barney I always remember his big brown Ford Pickup, with running boards, and lights…and more lights. Yes, the man did love his lights! But mostly I remember his and Donnie's kindness and helpfulness to me with my many extended visits to their homes in Poway and Escondido. Some of the best memories of my life are from those visits. Barney was always wanting to help me work on my car, at times much more than I did. One summer I drove out from Oklahoma in a car that had been stored for quite some time, by the time I returned at the end of the summer Barney had that car rehabbed better than new! He taught me how to change fluids, belts, hoses, filters, you name it. I was able to drive that car for years afterward due to his help but I really think he did it just so he could make fun of me later trying to get the grease and oil out of my fingernails! I regret that I will not be able to attend his memorial service. My condolences to you all.

A friend of mine after hearing about Dad's passing told me that I was one of the lucky ones. She is right. Dad showed me what it was to take pride in a job well done, showed me how a real man takes care of his family above all else, and showed me romantic love between a husband and wife. Really what else is important? The life I have now is because of him and Mom, and I will be forever grateful. My heart is broken, but it will mend and I will have great memories of my father to share with others.I love you Dad.

Dear Grandpa Barney, I miss you and I love you so much. I remember helping you build and paint the birdhouses. We also put together the airplane model and the dirt bike one too. I was so glad when you moved into the house because then I could see you everyday. My favorite thing we did was plant strawberries and tomatoes in the garden together. I used to like to bring you diet 7-Up and read books to you. I will miss going desert camping without you. Now you will be closer to our kite when I'm flying it.Love Your Grandson,Daniel (age 7)
