Beatrice Lerma Quinones' Obituary
Beatrice “Bea” L. Quinones, 95, of Chula Vista, California, passed away on July 9, 2024.
Bea was born on December 14, 1928, in San Diego, California, to Ramon G. and Josefa G. Lerma. She was one of nine children and grew up in Barrio Logan, where her family owned a tortilla factory. Bea attended the original San Diego High School, graduating in 1947.
On October 16, 1949, Bea married Humberto J. Quinones. They shared 40 wonderful years together until his passing in 1989. Bea and Humberto welcomed three children: Humberto Jr., David, and Patricia. Bea was very involved in her children’s schooling, participating in the PTA, attending various sporting events, and celebrating each of their accomplishments. She was known for opening her home and kitchen to her children’s friends, providing a warm and welcoming environment. As Bea became a ‘Nana,’ she showered her four granddaughters with unconditional love and support. She made sure to attend all life achievements from graduations, birthdays, and weddings for all her children and grandchildren alike.
In her early life, Bea worked at her family’s tortilla factory, the cannery in Logan Heights, and as a seamstress at Ratner’s in downtown San Diego. She had a variety of hobbies, including sewing, cooking, arts and crafts, traveling, playing slots at the casinos, and enjoying a good cocktail, especially fireball. Bea loved hosting anyone who wanted a nice hot meal and good conversation. Her feistiness helped her navigate life’s trials, and her love was felt by all who encountered her.
Bea is survived by her daughter Patricia “Patty” Quinones; her granddaughters Sheri Amaro and her husband Gustavo Amaro, Nicole Quinones and her partner Drew McElroy, Danielle Quinones and her husband Eric Watson, and Desiree Quinones; her sister Theresa Rubio; and numerous extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Humberto J. Quinones, and her sons Humberto “Bert” J. Quinones, and David L. Quinones; her sister’s Amelia ‘Margie’ Mariscal, Norma Hernandez, and Dolores Lerma; her brother’s Albert, Max, Ray, and Joseph Lerma.
Bea will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, hospitality, and resilience will be cherished.
A service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park at the Salli Lynn Chapel in San Diego on August 1st at 11 AM. A celebration of life will follow, with the location to be disclosed at the time of the service. Donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, and flowers are welcomed.
