Bertie L. Fox Born January 18, 1929 Passed December 23, 2015Bertie L. Morris was born in Golden Colorado. She was the oldest of 6 children. She was a loving sister, who looked after her sister and 4 brothers so that her Mother could work as a nurse to support the family, Bertie graduated college at Denver University and worked at a theater as an accountant until 1952. Her plan was to move to Germany and she came to San Diego to visit her Mother and say goodbye. Her Mother worked at the Barrett Café. One of the patrons was a handsome sailor and it was love at first sight. On March 18, 1952, Bertie married Lawrence Ingram Fox; they were together in love for 55 years until Larry’s death on April 27, 2007.They raised four children: Mary, Larry (deceased), Penny (Bob) and Ginger (David). They have 6 grandchildren: Daniel (Kristina), Bryan (deceased), Meghan (Joel), Shaun, Maximillian and Eliza. Bertie recently became a great grandmother to Jaxon and Makenzy.Bertie is survived by her brother’s Robert (Jeanne) Curry, Raymond (Janice) Curry, Samuel (Jennifer) Curry. She has a sister-in-law Lucy Lawrence. Bertie has numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great great nephews.Besides being a homemaker, Bertie was very active at her children’s school in PTA, Playground Duty as well as organizing and orchestrating fund raisers. She was equally active in her church, First Baptist Church of Bostonia where in 1952 they became members. Bertie was a Sunday School Teacher, on the Social Committee as well as worked alongside of Larry on many boards and committees.Larry and Bertie loved to travel and took many vacations throughout the world as well as visited numerous states in the US. They had many friends and lived an enriched, joyful life.Bertie was a very strong woman and had a survivor spirit. In May of 2000, she was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. She was told that her chances for survival were grim. She fought her cancer with many rounds of chemotherapy and survived it like many of the hurdles in her life with dignity and grit. In 2005, while Larry was battling his terminal illness, she suffered a massive stroke and was hospitalized. It was suggested that she stay in assisted living, but she refused in order to stay with her husband. One week before Larry’s death; she had a mild stroke that seemed to bring her out of her disconnection. She was able to be present with full mental understanding of Larry’s demise. She was there to sleep at his side at the hospital and hold his hand during his passing. She endured many more strokes, but kept fighting back with a positive attitude. In May of 2015, she had her last massive stroke which left her paralyzed from the waist down. In her last 7 months, she resided at Villa Rancho Bernardo. She was well cared for and adored by the staff. Bertie was fortunate to have a beautiful roommate named Dorothy; they had many things in common. They were referred to as the “Twins” as they were inseparable. Dorothy told the family that Bertie told her many times that she had a wonderful life and was ready to go be with her beloved Larry.On December 23, 2015, Bertie passed away from pneumonia, she went very quickly did not suffer.The Family has asked for those attending the Memorial Service on Monday January 4th at the First Baptist Church of Bostonia at 5:30 p.m. to please wear red, this was Bertie’s wish.
