Bette Gene Rhyne's Obituary
Mrs. Bette Gene Rhyne was born May 13, 1932 to Robert and Narcissie Summerfield in San Diego, California. She was the third sister of three girls. She attended Memorial Junior High and graduated from San Diego High School. Bette met the love of her life, Simon Irving Rhyne and they married July 7, 1953. After a divorce and many years of friendship, they remarried April 6, 1996. Bette and Simon started their life in the San Diego area. Later, they decided to relocate to Sacramento and Las Vegas for a few years, but came back to the city they loved, San Diego. Bette retired from Walker Scott, a chain of department stores in the San Diego area.
After retiring she worked at Drug King part time. Bette loved to shop for clothes, shoes, gadgets and food. If you knew Bette you knew she was a shopper, but also a giver. Always looking to give gadgets or food to someone who appreciated her taste! Her favorite foods were steak, ham and potatoes which she enjoyed cooking.
Bette was a very private person but looked forward to her quarterly luncheon with several of her childhood friends. She also enjoyed visiting the casinos in Las Vegas and in her area. The Raiders were her favorite football team that she love to cheer them on in the stands or while watching them on television.
Bette was proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters Margarette Smith and Gerry Kee, husband Simon Irving Rhyne and son Tracy Tannihill. Left to cherish her memories is Teely Rhyne, her brother in law, two childhood friends, Justine Jefferson and Augusta Sawyer. Two close friends Barbara Bryant and Edith White and a host of nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
