My dear sister it’s been 7 years but to me it
was just yesterday that you got your heavenly wings. I miss you so much but I know that you’re watching over me for I sense your presence at times. You’re forever in my thoughts and the fun memories that we shared are embedded in my heart.

I had the tremendous privilege of knowing Bettie for a few years while serving together for a few years at Mt Zion Baptist Church. She was so friendly and so honest. We sang in the choir together along with brother Charles. She always had a warm smile, and my heart is truly sad that she has left us to mourn. To Charles and her brother Bobby, I send my sincerest condolences. She will be sorely missed.
Whenever I would see my Aunt Bettie, she would have this big beautiful smile on her face. She would give me the biggest, warmest, loving hug anyone could ever give and she would say, “You know I love you, right?” To which I would reply, “Yes…and I love you too!” Then she would proceed to tell me how handsome I am. I wish I could have one more hug and one more conversation as I truly miss my Aunt Bettie. I read this poem recently and it really has helped me through this time of mourning and I want to share it.The Dash by Linda Ellis copyright 1996?I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning…to the end.He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.For it matters not, how much we own, the cars…the house…the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged.If we could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real and always try to understand ?the way other people feel.And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.?So, when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash… would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent YOUR dash?I hope this poem helps you remember the good times we had with my Aunt Bettie while on earth and it brings a smile to your face. Bettie was one of the most sweetest and loving people I know. To those of us that was blessed to be a part of her life, our lives have been made the better. To those that weren’t as fortunate, you have my sympathy. Our loss is heaven’s gain but it doesn’t ease our pain. To the family, my heart hurts for you because I KNOW how close you all were. Let’s not say “goodbye” but instead let’s say, “we’ll see ya later, Bettie!”
I am going to miss my Auntie dearly our trips to the car dealer when I wanted a new car she was there. The talks we had the rode trips the laughed we shared and the times the family got together for fun times. I love you Aunt Betty Rest In Peace
God blessed me with a beautiful sister. My remarkable sister I admire the grace you perfected and the wisdom that you shared. Someone is missing from our very presence. Someone is missing from the other end of the couch, kitchen. Our beloved companion, sister, auntie and friend. Someone is missing from the church pew, usher board and choir stand. Someone is missing from our presence sad but true. Someone is missing with a heart filled with love and glitter on her shoes.
