Blanche A. Terry's Obituary
Blanche Terry was born in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, May 10, 1922. She was the only child of Ollie and Margaret Board, both who preceded her in death. She was introduced to Jesus Christ and received the gift of salvation at an early age.Following her father’s death, she and her mother moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she attended school through high school, and some college.In March 1946, she came to San Diego, California to visit her Aunt Sybil, and decided to move and stay here. Soon afterwards she met a gentleman named William Terry, whom she married August 17, 1947, at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Blanche and William were both members there until 1959 when they and their sons became members of Calvary Baptist Church. She remained a faithful tithing member of Calvary Baptist Church, until her death.Her marriage to William lasted until his death in 2006, and even beyond. Their union produced five sons: William Terry, III (Regina), Abdul-Latif Salaama [nee Duane E. Terry] (Mary), Gregory K. Terry (Ruth Ann), Philip C. Terry (deceased), and Donald A. Terry (deceased). Four Grandsons: Aaron, Isaiah, Gregory, II, and Da’Ron. Three Granddaughters: Dionne (deceased), Hilary, and Tira. Great grandchildren: Deonte, Latrell, Da’Maya and Jiles.Blanche completed her formal education, which included earning a LVN license, which she was for 20 years, and served on the Calvary Baptist Church Nurses Auxiliary; an AA Degree at San Diego City College; a BA Degree at San Diego at San Diego State University, and in 1982 she earned her Juris Doctorate Degree at Western State College of a Law. She was active in many organizations: AKA Sorority, National Association of Parliamentarians, Southland Black Professional Women, AARP, Head Start Programs. She also worked the polls for many years and retired as Branch Manager of the Social Security Office in Southeast San Diego.A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friend join us in mourning her death.ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Terry family acknowledges the graciousness of all who have expressed their condolences through messages, flowers, visits, prayers, and other expressions of kindness and concern during our bereavement.
