Bobbie Allen's Obituary
Our beloved mother Bobbie Jean Allen, wife to our dearly departed (May 16, 2023) father James Taylor Allen, and cherished grandmother, passed away on May 25, 2024, in San Diego, California at the age of 76. Bobbie was involved in academics for most of her life. She had written poetry since she was eight years old. Bobbie was an accomplished scholar of history and law, graduating from San Diego State University in 1979, with all "A's" in her major. Bobbie was the first undergraduate student to be awarded the Theophilus E. McKinney award for outstanding research, which was presented to her at Howard University, an award that was won in a field that mostly included graduate students. She then proceeded to Thomas Jefferson School of Law, receiving her law degree in 1983. Later, she traveled to Coventry, England, where she earned a Master's of international law in human rights and criminal justice from Coventry University in 2003, fulfilling a lifelong dream as an empty nester and graduating at the top of her class. Bobbie was devoted to her family and to a life of perennial learning, and she fed her mind with knowledge and nurtured her natural curiosity and zest for life until her last day. There were no limits to her love and to her capacity to inspire those around her. She was the embodiment of selflessness and sacrifice. Bobbie is survived by her children, daughter Karen (and husband "Sonny" Hempstead), daughter Roxanne and son James (wife Alicia Allen); her grandchildren, Karen's sons Devin, Davian, and Dominique; the sons of her dearly departed daughter Erica (November 5, 2022) Jaylen and Jahi; Roxanne's daughters Kalina and Elena; James and his wife Alicia's daughter Lupita; and her great granddaughter Katherine, daughter of Devin and his wife Shondelle. She is forever loved and will be forever missed. May she rest in heaven with Christ our Lord to whom she devoted her spiritual life and walked in his image every day of her blessed life.
