Bobby Elie Meze's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Elie Meze, age 88, who passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at 11:30 am, in San Diego, California, surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was born on June 11th, 1935, in Longmont Colorado. He attended Longmont High School, where he met his wife, Janet Miller, and graduated in 1953. Bobby married Janet, joined the United States Navy, and later started a family. After completing boot camp, in San Diego, California, a close friend talked him into going into Air Traffic Controller School, something he never considered before but thought it would be a fun. Air Traffic Control became a lifelong career and passion.
The Naval Air Traffic Control position moved the family to many locations around the Unites States, including Guam. His final duty station brought him to San Diego where he worked the towers at Miramar Naval Air Station, North Island Naval Air Station, and the Naval Auxiliary Landing Field on San Clemente Island. He earned promotions through the ranks and reached E-9 Senior Master Chief Petty Officer and honorably retired in 1986, after 33 years of service. He was immediately recruited by Civil Service back into Air Traffic Control and he continued to serve until his second retirement in 1993.
Bobby always believed in formal education and finally had an opportunity to seek a new challenge by returning to school and earned an associate degree in business administration and obtained his Real Estate License. Bobby used his real estate skills to serve his fellow veterans in San Diego until 1999.
In 2000, Bobby lost his high school sweetheart and loving wife of more than 43 years to breast cancer. Bobby was the most gentle, warm, and inviting person who lived his life with integrity. He made everyone feel like you were a part of his family. He created a home filled with laughter, encouragement, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. He was not just a father but also a mentor, a friend, and a guiding light for our family. Bobby enjoyed many years sailing on the waters of Coronado Bay with his family.
Bobby later met and married Suzanne Moore in 2003 and moved to Palm Springs. In 2019, they returned to San Marcos to be closer to family and friends.
Bobby was preceded by his parents, Leon and Bernice Meze, his brother Theodore Meze, and stepson Jason Moore. He is survived by his wife Suzanne Meze, children Kim Meze Humphries (Jack Humphries), Shawn Meze (Julie Meze), Kristi Meze Burtis (Tyler Burtis), his brothers Marvin and Kenny Meze, and many loving grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at Fort Rosecrans on April 15, 2024, at 10:30 am.
