Byron Madison Taylor II's Obituary
Byron Madison Taylor II, 81, of San Diego, California passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019, surrounded by his three children.He was born to parents Byron and Bernice Taylor on August 17, 1937 in San Diego, California. He resided in San Diego County off and on for over 50 years. Byron attended high school at the Army Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California and went on to earn an undergraduate degree from San Jose State University and a graduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic University. Byron worked for the San Diego Police Department and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and in 1963 transitioned to civil service as a special agent for the Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS). He went on to have a very prosperous career, dedicating over 35 years to law enforcement. At different times he was stationed in California, Virginia and the Philippines. He was deployed for over a year on the USS Nimitz, where he said they were served so much chicken he would never eat it again! Byron was instrumental in several high profile investigations resulting in numerous convictions. He retired in San Francisco as the Regional Director of Operations for the Northwest Field Office, NCIS in 1993.Byron had a lifelong passion for the game of golf. He began at an early age and competed in numerous amateur events through his life. After retiring, Byron worked as a rules official for both the Northern California Golf Association and the Southern California Golf Association where he became well respected for his knowledge of the rules and his ability to run competitions. Byron also loved to cook, and he was never shy to boast about how tender his latest brisket had turned out. He loved to barbecue (anything but chicken), make chili and entertain.Byron is survived by son Byron Madison Taylor III (Nina), daughter Roxanne Linarelli (Greg), and Kelly Page (Andy), as well as his three grandchildren Ryan Page, Megan Page and Andrew Linarelli. Byron is also survived by the mother of his children and former spouse, Mary Lee Taylor. He was predeceased by parents Byron & Bernice Taylor, sister Elizabeth Waters, brother-in-law John Waters, and infant granddaughter Leah Linarelli.A private family service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019. The family requests donations in support of the Lewy Body Dementia Association in lieu of sending flowers. The family of Byron M. Taylor II is being served by Greenwood Memorial Park. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
