Calvert Porter's Obituary
ObituaryCalvert Porter was born June 19, 1945 in San Diego to Merle Willard Porter and Kathleen Wagner Pettigrew. Calvert was the only child of his mother Kathleen, and the oldest of six Merle Porter boys. He is survived by brothers Myron, Merle, Marshall, and Kevin. His brother Michael’s demise preceded him. Calvert grew up in Southeast San Diego, and graduated from Kearny Mesa High School in Linda Vista. His mother died unexpectedly when he was a teenager. He was especially close to his grandparents Thelma Porter and Essie Dees Wagner, as well as his father and stepmothers Marceline and Lula Porter. After graduating high school in the 1960’s, Calvert moved to Los Angeles where he attended Los Angeles Community College. He worked as a supervisor for the APCOA parking lot company. In Los Angeles he met his wife Tawana Arbaugh and there they had their daughter, Tamara. Calvert returned to San Diego a few years later and worked for a while at a popular bar and entertainment center called the Sportsman Club which was owned and operated by his father and his wife Lula. Calvert continued his working career at CALTRANS. In 1970 he met his lifelong partner Tony. Cal loved music, entertainment and jewelry. He is survived by his daughter Tamara, his granddaughter Chelsea, his grandson Maximillian and his partner Tony. Cal was loved by those who knew him and he’ll be missed.
