Candido "Candy" Angelo Morelli's Obituary
Candido “Candy” Angelo Morelli, 92, of San Diego, California, formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey, passed away on January 18, 2013, after a short illness.Candido attended Newark Vocational Scholl where he studied to be a typesetter and worked at the Newark Evening News. He was also a messenger for Kresge Department Store, delivering sale signs throughout the store. He then began working for an advertising agency in New York City which led to a courier position at the Star Ledger newspaper.An avid enthusiast of Opera and Classical music, Mr. Morelli was also an accomplished baritone in his own right. He began singing in high school and performed for weddings. He sang and acted every Sunday for the Newark OperaChorus and once stood in for the lead in Rigoletto by Verdi. He sang with many chorale groups such as the Mellochords of Kearny, New Jersey; Seton Hall Opera Chorus and in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Choir, both in Newark, New Jersey. He also held membership in the New Jersey Symphony Chorale in Newark’s Symphony Hall. In the early 70’s, Mr. Morelli moved to San Diego, California and was a member of the Sacred Heart Choir of San Diego and the San Diego Symphonic Chorale, vocally as a bass. He and his father, John, used to perform duets at the Italian Our Lady of the Rosary Church, also in San Diego. Mr. Morelli, for many years, belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Republican National Party.Mr. Morelli was born in February 26, 1920, in East Orange, New Jersey. He is survived by two brothers, Amedeo Morelli from Orlando, Florida and Emil Morelli from San Diego, California; niece Darlene Onnembo Woodworth from San Diego, California and her family who cared for him; seven nieces, six nephews, eighteen great nieces and great nephews, seven great-great nieces and great-great nephews and one great-great-great niece on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents Beatrice Raus and Giovanni (John) Morelli; brother Maurice Morelli, sister Mary Morelli Onnembo and nephew John Morelli.
