He worked over 35 years as a Cosmetology Instructor in San Diego, where he was loved and admired by his students who lovingly called him “Mr. D”. His hobbies and passions were gardening and bee-keeping. Many life lessons were passed to his children and family as they spent time with him in his garden where it seemed that everything he touched, brought forth fruit and beauty. In the same way, he touched all those who knew him.He had a passion for learning, and always told his children that in the words of his mother, “Doña Refugio”, the only way to improve your life was to get an education. He modeled this by teaching himself English; achieving a beautiful command of his second language. He also took night classes and was an avid reader all while working full time and raising 6 children.Carlos was a man of great faith. He attended mass daily until several years ago when his health failed him.
