Carlyle Lowell Hagen's Obituary
Carlyle Lowell Hagen, age 87 of San Diego, California, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 in San Diego, California. Carlyle was born on Monday, April 13, 1931 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to the late Ode Hagen and Josephine Evje Hagen. Carlyle is survived by his wife, Margaret Lee Hagen, his 3 daughters Debbra O’Connor, Joyce Barksdale and Sherrie Hagen-Stepp, his grandchildren John Zanie Jr, Leah Steinmetz, Jerah Payne, Julie O’Connor, Timothy Barksdale, Nathan Barksdale, Jordan Barksdale, Quincy Oliver and Seth Caldwell, his great grandchildren Tanner, Harmony, Braydon, and Blake Zanie, Chase, Dylan, and Wyatt Steinmetz, Brett Payne, and Hunter O’Connor, as well as his loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his son Keith O Hagen. Carl was raised on a farm three miles north of East Grand Forks and moved to California at age 14 and attended Hoover High School.Carl’s career spanned 45 years as an Electronics Engineer for General Dynamics and as a Telemetry data professional until retirement in 1995. He processed data from the mission that launched two Mars Landers in 1976 as well as telemetry data from launches of the spacecraft that retuned pictures from Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Carl remained an active ham radio operator Call Sign W6ZST since 1947, enjoyed traveling, birdwatching, bowling, investing in the stock market and gardening. Carl will be remembered fondly for his love of documenting gatherings of both family and friends via both still photos and videos. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in the Longfellow Slumber Room of Greenwood Mortuary. A Funeral Church Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4335 Van Dyke Avenue, San Diego, CA 92105 with the burial to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.
