Carmen Arnold nee Appel10/27/1918 to 12/08/2016Carmen Arnold of San Diego, California went to heaven on December 8, 2016.Born in Ensenado, Mexico to Federico Appel and Veronica Appel de Cesena, she settled in San Diego in 1956 after marrying Richard Arnold, her husband of 32 years who predeceased her in 1987 at 88 years of age. He was a veteran of WWI in the German Army and WWII in the US Navy.Carmen will be remembered for her deep faith in God, her love of animals (in particular cats and birds), her enjoyment of lifelong learning, and her love of family. She was a beloved housewife, mother and grandmother whose hobbies were folding origami, studying German and building doll houses for her granddaughters as well as eating chocolate.Her whole world revolved around her only daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters. They were the most important people in her life and brought her great joy. She was able to live with them for the last six years and be cared for by them in their home.Carmen is survived by her daughter, Babette Iris King nee Arnold, son-in-law Douglas Kester King, three granddaughters: Stephanie and Sally King, Stacey Parker nee King, grandson-in-law: Harrison Parker, nephew Oscar Appel and two grand nephews: Oscar Appel Zazueta and Michel Appel Zazueta. She also deeply loved and considered as family Doug’s parents: Sally and Don King of Canton, Ohio.Celebration of Life will be at Penasquitos Lutheran Church, 14484 Penasquitos Drive, San Diego, CA 92129 at 3:00pm on December 30, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Diego Humane Society.
