Carmen Mesa Gomez's Obituary
Carmen Mesa Gomez died peacefully at her home on Saturday October 15th surrounded by her loved ones.Carmen is survived by her sons Charles and Marcos, granddaughters Becky, Charleen, Kara and Kirsten and great grandson Adrian, and preceded in death by her husband Fernando Gomez.Carmen was born in Lemon Grove and made her home there with Fred. She was active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Don Diego Post and served as their Chaplain for a time. Carmen and Fernando went dancing most weekends and enjoyed socializing and entertaining their many friends.Carmen was a fantastic cook and known for her Christmas tamales and menudo. She enjoyed sewing and took care with her collection of Cabbage Patch dolls, repairing their clothing and hair. She loved gardening and spent many hours tending her plants and flowers.She was a strong personality, not afraid to say what she meant. At the same time she was a loving and giving person, always willing to give of herself to help others including a village in Mexico that she often provided with clothing and household goods. Hers was a full life well lived.A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday October 25th at 10 am at La Vista Memorial Park in National City. A viewing will take place on October 24th at Greenwood Memorial Park, Salli Lynn Chapel between 5 and 9 pm with a VFW eagles presentation at 5:30 pm and rosary recitation at 6 pm.
