Carmen Nasses Lee's Obituary
Carmen Nasses Lee, 89, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on January 1st in San Diego, California. She was born in Springfield, Ohio to William K. Nasses and Rose Edith Nasses. Her family moved to Wilmington, Ohio in 1932 when her father was chosen to manage the Murphy Theater. Carmen attended school in Wilmington, graduating from Wilmington High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Chula Vista, California and entered nursing school at County Hospital, graduating in 1947. After graduation, Carmen worked as a registered nurse in Chula Vista. She met and married William Metzger, Jr., a WWII Navy veteran. They had one son and lived in San Diego. Carmen and Bill were pilots, owning a WWII trainer. They both took helicopter training in Rhode Island. For many years, she sang in the choir at her church. She sang around the house so much, that you didn’t need to have the radio on. Carmen later worked as an insurance agent, followed by several years as a welfare worker for the County of San Diego. After retiring from the County, she delivered library books to shut-ins in Chula Vista and performed other volunteer work. Carmen loved people and enjoyed any opportunity to make new friends, including being a member of a local singing group and selling Watkins and Amway products.Preceded in death by her parents, Carmen is survived by her son William Metzger, daughter-in-law Claudia Metzger, cousin Barbara Edwards, sister-in-law June Baciu and life-long friends since childhood, Ethel Dennis and Patricia Shetterly.Services will be on Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Salli Lynn Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Ave., San Diego, CA 92113. Viewing from 12 noon with service at 1pm.
