Carolina Ann Hartpence's Obituary
CAROLINA ANN HARTPENCE June 23, 1922 – March 2, 2019 Our Beloved Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, Carol Hartpence, passed away peacefully following her courageous medical battles with Lewy Body Dementia and other debilitating illnesses. Carol faced each with her deep faith, courage and determination to handle any challenge. She maintained her strength with the love, support, and humor in our family by whom she will always be greatly loved. In Carol’s final years, Angela and Mike cared for her in her home in Imperial Beach. It was our honor to share our lives and efforts together. As her challenges increased, Carol recently moved to Sun & Sea Manor where she enjoyed her interactions with the wonderful staff and her fellow clients, “the girls”. She was always concerned and trying to assist any in need whenever she could. She was visited daily by our family members, including her great grandsons, and by the Eucharistic Ministers from St. Charles parish on Sundays. Carol was preceded in death by her Husband of 68 years, John Hartpence, in 2012 and by her Grandson, John Dullea in 2010. She is survived by her Daughter Angela Dullea, Son in Law Michael Dullea, and Grandsons: Michael Dullea, Jr, our Daughter in Law Michelle, and our Grandson Michael Norman Dullea; Matthew Dullea, our Daughter in Law Kyla, and our Grandsons Jack, Ryan and Evan; David Dullea, our Daughter in Law Kristina, and our Grandsons Nathan and Patrick. John, Carol, and daughter Angela lived the life of a Navy family with constant hardship relocations, and long separations in his nearly 28-year Navy career. Carol and Angela were not only survivors but were Mother/Daughter Best Friends all their lives. Carol prepared incredible Italian feasts and had a wonderful tradition of homemade pizza Fridays. For years she enjoyed playing her organ and singing her favorite gospel hymns. Her favorite, “Were You There?” was played with the family gathered around to hear. Her version of “trembled” from that hymn is legendary, and the perfect beginning to the Lenten/Easter season. She has received her heavenly reward through her great love, service to all, and deep faith. Carol Hartpence will always be remembered as a “good and faithful servant” to God, and totally loved in our family. The Wake/Viewing will take place Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Greenwood Mortuary in the Garden Chapel. Greenwood Mortuary is located at 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, Ca. On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the Holy Cross Mausoleum Dome, the Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am, followed immediately by the Funeral/Mass of the Resurrection, to be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Mulcahy, Pastor, St. Joseph Cathedral. Internment ceremony will follow at Holy Cross where Carol will be laid to rest with her Husband, John, and next to her Grandson, John Dullea. Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum is located at 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego. The family wishes to express its gratitude to so many friends and professionals who have assisted and cared about Carol over the years. These include Dr. Peter Kelly, MD and his wonderful staff, especially his Nurse Karen. Thanks also to Sheri Juan, RN, of Sharp Transition Hospice for her concern and knowledgeable assistance. Many Thanks to Pacific Point Hospice Care, especially Sean Lam, RN and the several top RN’s and care givers who were of great assistance to Carol and interacted well with other care providers. We are especially grateful to Sun &Sea Manor, Imperial Beach, and its great staff lead by Dorothy Rose Augustin, for their professionalism and personal concern for Carol and all their clients, in Sun & Sea’s “feels like you are home” environment. Thank you to all.
