Carrie Y. Bankett's Obituary
Carrie Young Bankett was born February 7, 1927 in Boyce, Louisiana. She was the seventh child born to the late Oscar Young and Cornelia Berry Young. She received her education at Alan Parish Colored School in Oakdale, Louisiana. Carrie accepted Christ as her personal Savior in 1940 and was baptized by Reverend J. W. Walker of the Damascus Baptist Church in Lena Station, Louisiana.Carrie was a world-class Cook and had extraordinary culinary skills. As a result of her skills she became the personal family cook for a well-known Oil Tycoon in Houston, Texas. Her professionalism was so admired by her employer they insisted that she accompany them on all their business trips throughout the world Carrie’s employment allowed her to be exposed to many places and people she may have never encountered.While living in Houston, Texas she became friends -with Marie Taylor. Marie later introduced Carrie to her brother, Clellmiller, -who lived in San Diego, California and had come home for a visit The two became a match made in heaven and soon after joined together in Holy Matrimony in Houston, Texas on June 24, 1964. Clellmiller brought his bride back to Seen Diego, California to start their new life together.Carrie soon joined the Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the last Dr. S. M Lockridge. She was a member of the Sanctuary Choir; the Noon-Day Prayer Band and the Sunday School. Carrie remained a faithful member at Calvary for over 50 years.Carrie was a very creative and talented seamstress. She enjoyed working in her garden and fishing. In 1991 she -was recognized by the Officers and Board of Trustees as a “Lifetime Member” of the National Geographic Society. She fully supported the organization for diffusing geographic knowledge and promoting research and exploration.On Thursday, August 13, 2015 Carrie was called to eternal rest She leaves to cherish her memories three sisters: Isabella Busby and Beatrice Miller both of Houston, Texas; and Lillie Matthews (Michael) of New Orleans, Louisiana; one sister-in-law: Juanita Mason of Houston, Texas; special friend, Zella Dudley of San Diego, California; and a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.“GOD’s GARDEN” God looked around His garden, and found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest, God’s garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your loving eyes and whispered, “Peace Be Thine.”IN APPRECIATION The family of Carrie Young Bankett would like to share our gratitude and love for the many calls, visits and prayers from far and near. We will always remember your kind expressions of God’s love.REPAST There will be a repast for family and friends immediately following the interment. It wil be held at Calvary Baptist Church in the Paul McKee Fellowship Hall.
