Charlene H. Burleson's Obituary
Charlene H. Burleson was born Edna Charlene Haney on May 24, 1929, to Curtis and Lola Haney in Lamar County, Alabama. She was the only girl, the third of six children. She went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, on January 25, 2018, at the age of 88.Charlene is survived by her daughter Joan, her sons Gregory, and Michael and her brother James C. Haney. She was a special grandmother and was blessed with seven grandchildren Lori, Debbie, David, Andria, Jennifer, Megan, and Alyssa. She also enjoyed her ten great grandchildren Tori, Kristin, Alex, Kassandra, Karen, Lexi, Ryan, Greyson, Ryker, and Scout.Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James N. Burleson in 2007. In addition to her parents, Charlene was also preceded in death by four brothers, Woodie Haney, Ed Haney, Ben Haney, and Floyd (Top) Haney. Charlene was a proud Navy wife who enjoyed all the places the Navy took the family to live, but her favorite place was living in Hawaii. Charlene was a community volunteer. She helped with Girl Scouts and was a team mother for Little League Baseball, Pony League, and Colt League. She served for 25 years as voting poll inspector in South San Diego. She worked with the Otay Mesa Homeowner’s Association. She was a member of the Otay Mesa-Nestor Planning Committee, and worked with the Otay Valley Reginal Park Commission to establish the Otay Valley Park.Charlene enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a people person and enjoyed working in politics, volunteering, traveling, gardening, and playing Bunco and dominoes.
