Charles Leonard Calabrese's Obituary
Charles (Cal) Leonard Calabrese was called home to Heaven on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the age of 100. Charles passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on November 30, 1919 to his proud parents, Ignatius and Anna Calabrese, in Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of five children.
Charles moved to Buffalo, New York at an early age with his family, where he attended high school. He graduated from high school in 1937. Charles began his career at Bell Aircraft in 1940. In 1944, Charles was drafted into the military and served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. In 1949, Charles married the love of his life, Lola Antonelli. They were happily married for over 70 years. They had two children: Dale Calabrese and Darlene Harbison. The Calabrese family moved to San Diego, CA in 1960 where Lola and Charles continued to raise their family in Clairemont.
Charles was a gentleman who loved to have fun. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid golf player and dancer. He belonged to the Italian American Golf Association, Sons of Italy organization, and was a member of American Finest City Dixieland Jazz Society.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife Lola, his son Dale Calabrese, daughter Darlene Harbison, two grandchildren, Kevin and Cal Harbison, and a host of family and friends who will hold him close to their hearts.
