Charles Lenwood James' Obituary
Charles Lenwood James was born to Alvin and Sarah James on October 26, 1930 in Philadelphia PA. He was the fourth of their seven children. The family moved to White Plains, NY in 1939, where Charles was educated and graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in 1949. In high school, Charles excelled both academically and athletically. He was an honor student and achieved Hall of Fame status for basketball, baseball, and football. Charles joined the United States Navy in 1950 and continued his education while in the Navy. He received medials for services for the Korean and Vietnam wars. Charles retired in 1972 as an Electronic Warfare Chief. After retiring from the Navy he worked for the Border Patrol in the mid 70’s. Charles earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from San Diego State University. In 1979 Charles worked as a Technical Writer for the National Cash Register (NCR) for more than 15 years. Charles’ marriage to Ester Terry in 1965 abruptly ended with her death in 1976. His love of Ester’s mother and family never wavered. Charles continued his academic pursuits in 1977 at San Diego City College, where he met his future wife and family. For thirty-five years Charles dedicated himself to his wife Gloria, their three daughters Jessica, Wrina, and Monjah; and grandchildren – what he fondly referred to as the James Gang. After a four year struggle to remain with his loved ones, on Sunday, April 28, 2013, Charles’s heart slowly stopped. He left this world while in the arms of the women that loved him, his wife Gloria, his daughter Monjah and his granddaughter Ahjahnae.
