Charles Phillip Kiefer's Obituary
Charlie P. Kiefer, 85, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024 in San Diego, California. He was born in 1938 in Effingham, Illinois. He was 17 when he joined the U.S. Navy. He became a Mess Cook in the Navy which he enjoyed up until he passed away. As a second career Charlie taught cadets how to cook. He enjoyed teaching and loved Jesus and he spent time teaching catechism to children. He loved to garden and growing award winning pumpkins. His pumpkins were a passion for him and he always had a photo of his pumpkins at the ready. Charlie was a kind and generous man. He was gregarious and always had a story. He was a docent on the U.S.S. Midway and loved meeting people from all over the world. He took special pride in explaining to visitors how to cook “Beef Stew for 2500” people. Charlie was one-of-a-kind. Services will be held on January 31, 2024 at Greenwood Memorial. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Midway Museum
