Charles Buford Sims' Obituary
Charles Buford Sims, Senior was born on December 8, 1926 to the late Sorris (Sol) and Vandolar Laster Sims in Decherd, Tennessee. He confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior several years ago and loved being part of the church family. Charles took his last breath on this earth one year after the death of his wife, Sunday, May 31, 2015.Charles attended school at Davidson Academy in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Charles met and married Della Mae Ann Johnson. Eight children were born in this union of 68 plus years. He worked a variety of jobs in Tullahoma before moving his family to San Diego, California in 1953. Charles loved his family and worked very hard to support and provide for them. His occupations in life took him down many paths. One lead to him operating his own business in the Greyhound Bus Terminal in San Diego for many, many years before his retirement.Charles had a natural ability to entertain people with stories of his early childhood and young adult life. He didn’t meet a stranger. Oh, what a generous and giving heart he had for people. What he had, you could have. His shirt was your shirt! His thinking was, “I know where to get another one.”Working jigsaw puzzles and fishing were two pleasures of his life, especially when it involved his family and close friends. He also liked trying to fix things. And usually it worked!Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Della M. Sims; parents, Sorris & Vandolar Sims; two brothers, Sorris Sims, Junior and James A. Sims and one sister, Lola J. Sims Ruth.He leaves to cherish his memory eight children: Charlotte (Charles) Buchanan, Agnes (Steve) Lathan, Sandra (Robert) Jones, Claudia Annette Elcock, Charles (Michele) Sims, Patricia S. Lucas, Michael J. Sims and Marlene F. Sims all of California; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Samuel Thomas (ST) Sims of California; five sisters, Donnie L. Wells, Los Angeles, California, Dorothy (Joe) Frazier, Bell Buckle, Tennessee, Virginia Jennings, Joannie Carden and Esther J. Sims of Tullahoma, Tennessee; sister-in-law Cora Sanders; two brother-in-laws, James and Jerry Bright and a host of other relatives and friends.In looking back over notes taken before Charles’ mother died, she was asked, “What do you remember about your son Charles? She said, “He is loving and kind.
