Cherrill Ann Smith's Obituary
Cherrill Smith, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on January 21, 2026, surrounded by love.
Cherrill was born on May 17, 1941, in Toledo, Washington, to Rensselaer William Wicklund and Clara Alice Wicklund (Nordness). She was raised with strong roots and a deep appreciation for community that she carried throughout her life.
She graduated from Hoover High School in San Diego and attended Kansas Wesleyan College. Over the years, Cherrill worked in many roles that reflected her outgoing nature and love of people, including positions at KOGO Radio, as a business partner at Our Boutique, a holiday cashier at Toys “R” Us, receptionist at Grossmont College, and sales associate at Petco. While she excelled in each role, she was most proud of her life’s work as a homemaker and mother, a role she held with devotion, humor, and boundless heart.
Cherrill was married for 28 years to her beloved husband and soulmate, Wallace Smith. Their love was steady, playful, and enduring—a partnership that remained central to her life.
A natural leader and connector, Cherrill gave countless hours to her community. She volunteered extensively with Western Little League, coached youth soccer and softball, and served as a classroom mom for all three of her children. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, played adult women’s softball, and served as Social Director at Villa Novia Estates, a role perfectly suited to her talent for bringing people together.
Above all else, Cherrill was the heart of every gathering. She was the planner, the instigator of shenanigans, the one who made sure no one ever felt left out. She was happiest surrounded by friends and family, laughing, telling stories, and savoring the moment. Her adventurous spirit took her many places, yet her favorite space was always wherever her people were.
Even in the final weeks of her life, Cherrill remained true to herself—making impulsive phone calls, filling her living room with friends, laughing until it hurt, and reminding everyone that joy was always worth making time for.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Smith; her parents Rensselaer and Clara Wicklund; her sister Amy Fishel; and her son Kenton Smith.
Cherrill is survived by her daughters Kristi Lowry (Erik) and Robin Haack (Richard); her brother Craig Wicklund (Valerie); her grandchildren Chelsey, Teryl, Adriana, Ian, Katelyn, and Rylee; and her beloved bonus granddaughter Eva, whom she loved as her own. She is also survived by her feisty, feathered, and infamous companion, Jade.
Cherrill’s legacy lives on in the laughter she sparked, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
