Cheryl Lynn Townsend's Obituary
Cheryl Lynn Townsend, owner of the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop, died September 18th of cancer. Known to family as Cheryl, she was perhaps best known to a wide network of lifelong friends as Lynn. She was the daughter of National League MVP, Bob Elliott, and Iva R. Elliott. She married John Townsend in 1962, and took over the management of “The Pie” after John died in 2011.Lynn was the center of strong circle of friends, some formed and maintained from grammar school, but especially from her time at Crawford High School, where she graduated in 1962. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends throughout her life.Lynn is survived by her sons Bob Townsend and Chris Townsend. Bob is golf professional at the Riverwalk Performance Center and is married to Lisa Townsend. They have two children, Jack & Dylan. Chris is a sports radio host and TV host in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is married to Amanda Townsend. They have two children, Abigale and Madelyn. She is also survived by her brother, Scott and her sister, Judith. She maintained an especially close relationship with her husband’s family in Beverly Farms, MA.Those who have known her will remember her as a strong woman, practical & outspoken, energetic, quick witted with a wonderful sense of humor. A pragmatist and intuitive, anyone who knew her quickly came to love her sense of humor, her love of baseball, theater, music and Paris. She will be missed.A memorial will be held at the San Diego Hall of Champions on Saturday, October 24th. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, or Sharp Hospice Parkview.
