Cleveland Wesley White's Obituary
Cleveland Wesley White affectionately known a Brother, Bro, Uncle Brother and “Sweet Cleve” was born Aug. 1, 1937 in Macon, Ga. His parents, John Alfred 7 Emmie Lucinda White, instilled in their five children, the Work Ethic and Golden Rule Principles. Cleveland attended B.S. Ingram Elementary and Ballard Hudson High Schools. He proudly served as Captain of Ballard-Hudson’s “Tigers” Football Team. With parental consent Cleveland enlisted in The United States Navy at the early age of seventeen (17) and honorably served four years during the Korean Conflict. Following a car accident that killed his Father in 1988, He relocated to San Diego where his youngest Sister, Rosemary White Pope, lovingly provided him care and comfort in her home for 27 years. He peacefully passed Thursday, May 28th at 11:29 am. In prior years his Niece (Charos Maull) and Nephew (Charles L. Lewis III) graciously assisted their Mom in providing care for “Uncle Cleve”. His favorite pastimes were watching sports, listening to all types of music, taking casino trips and keeping abreast on current events. He joined Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church in 1989 (Pastor Marshall A. Sharpe Jr.) He was a Participant at South Bay Bay Adult Day Health Care for (20) twenty years and received many awards in bowling, table games, participant of the month, Best look-a-like Santa, and best Halloween Costume. His other affiliations included: Member: Monfort Point Marine Assn. San Diego Chapter #12, Metro AARP, Student: San Diego Community College District (Older Adults), Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and ardent supporter of The George L. Stevens Senior Program. Cleveland was preceded in death by his parents John & Emmie White, Brother, John Oscar White, Nephew: Councilman Charles L. Lewis III and Brother-in-Law, John F. Bell. He leaves to cherish his memory three devoted and loving Sisters: Cynthia White Parks, Alicia White Bell and Rosemary White Pope, Nephews: Fred E. Parks (Jessica), Charlton Shabazz, and Damon Bell, Nieces: Vikki R. Summers (Alvin) Macon, Ga. Charos L. Maull, Eight (8) Great Nephews, Four (4) Great Nieces, Five (5) Great, Great Nieces, three (3) Great, Great Nephews, Beloved Cousin Patricia Holt Braswell (William) Mitchellville, Md. And a host of other Relatives and Caring and loving Friends. In spite of Cleveland’s rapidly declining health, he remained strong, resilient, and compassionate. His infectious Smile and kindred Spirit will forever be etched in our hearts.
