COWAN FONTAINE DAWSON
April 28, 1937 to April 11, 2020
Cowan Fontaine Dawson passed away peacefully on April 11, 2020 at the age of
82. He was born on April 28, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho to Cowan Cozart Dawson
and Mary Sumner Thorburn. In his childhood years, he had a pretty care free life
and his parents gave him a lot of freedom. He loved outdoor and indoor sports
including bicycling, swimming, hiking, basketball, and racquetball. He always
loved to workout at the gym, specifically the Las Vegas Athletic Club, up until
about the age of 75. He served in the United States Navy in the 1950's and
became a Systems Supply Engineer after his service in the Navy. As an Engineer,
he enjoyed repairing electronics and working independently while he worked at
the Nevada Test Site for 30 years. He resided in Las Vegas for most of his life and
enjoyed the desert and riding his motorcycle in the Red Rock Mountains. He was a
faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in
various callings, including Second Counselor in the Bishopric, Nursery Leader, and
many assignments in the Las Vegas Temple. He is preceded in death by his
parents and brother, William (Bill) Dawson. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn
Dawson, sister, Dixie Grillo, daughters, Jenni Dodd, Patty Forsythe, Sherry Engle,
Vicki Stecher, and sons, John Dawson, Cowan Dawson, Jr., Albert Forsythe, Jr.,
many grand children, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all the
family and many of his friends. His memory will live on forever and never be
forgotten.
