Crispin J. Guaro's Obituary
On December 5, 1925, in the municipality of Pavia in Iloilo, Philippines, a blessing was sent to Natividad and Fulgencio Guaro. His name was Crispin Guaro.Though he was only able to attain a 4th grade educational level, this did not hinder his success. Crispin’s path in life was interrupted by the second Sino-Japanese War. He went on to fight for his country in the American-Filipino Army in World War II, when he was approximately 20 years old. Initially, he served as a cook, but was later forced to become a guerilla soldier. He endured many tragedies during this time, such as being captured by the Japanese and being held prisoner. But because Crispin was a fighter, he managed to break free from the clutches of his enemies and escape the horrific episodes that were awaiting him back at his adversaries’ quarters. Crispin was a hero. After World War II, he moved to Manila to find a better life. He found work in carpentry as a foreman. Crispin later found the love of his life, Pilar Iruguin, in 1955 and married her in 1957. Together they had 6 children. In 1987, Crispin immigrated to the United States to seek a better life for his family. He was separated from his family for some time, but in 1991, was reunited with Pilar in the United States. In the forthcoming years, he reunited with all his children as well.Crispin enjoyed an array of hobbies after his retirement. One of the many hobbies included fishing. He enjoyed it so much that he brought along almost all of his grandchildren on his fishing expeditions. It was a great time for him to share his many war stories with them.He also had a great love for music. He loved playing Corridos while driving and especially loved to sing, hum, or whistle to tunes from The Platters, ABBA, and Engelbert Humperdinck. In the mornings, he loved reading the newspaper as he sipped on his coffee. On occasion, he would nurse a beer to unwind.Crispin was a survivor. He suffered many ailments throughout his lifetime but cheated death each time. It wasn’t until late May that he suffered irremediable damages to his brain. He was taken off life support and fought through for nearly 5 days. He lost the battle for his life on June 5, 2016 and is now with the Lord in Heaven to rest in peace.
