David "Woody" Woudenberg's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we are saddened to announce the passing of San Diego Vacation Rentals’ founder David “Woody” Woudenberg. Woody passed away suddenly from complications following hip surgery while here in San Diego on Tuesday, October 30th. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Henry and Judy Woudenberg, niece and nephew-in-law Heather and Mark Venegas, nephew Damon Woudenberg, and two great-nephews. Woody first came to San Diego in 1978 to obtain his Master’s Degree in Industrial Psychology. However, shortly after graduation he decided to obtain his broker’s license and dabble in real estate. It turned out to be his calling! Intrigued by the boardwalk’s lack of short-term rentals that he was used to seeing along the Atlantic City boardwalk in his home state of New Jersey, he decided to test the market by renting out his own beachfront home on a short-term basis. San Diego Vacation Rentals was born out of that experiment in 1985. By 1990, there were only two other companies managing short term rentals in Mission Beach. Today, a Google search reveals numerous short-term rental companies located in San Diego, and the search engine returns over 60 million results. He is truly the patriarch of short-term vacation rentals in beautiful Mission Bay Park. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm in San Diego.
