Despena Poulakidas' Obituary
With great sadness Despena Poulakidas left this earth bravely and peacefully, surrounded by her children, March 10, 2015, in Sacramento CA. She has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, and welcomed into the loving arms of her husband in their Heavenly home. Born in Shreveport, LA on August 21, 1926. She was 88. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Poulakidas (1994), brother, Nick Progule (2008), son-in-laws Leland Taylor (2009) and Gregg {Buck} Buckland (2012).She maintained her quick wit and humor to the end. Beloved by so many for her cheerful disposition, curious mind, willingness to listen and welcoming ways, she endeared herself to all who knew her. She found happiness in all situations and was continually serving others. Despena gave selflessly throughout her life and always put the needs of her family above her own. The things in life that mattered to her most was her family and she considered herself to be one the richest people on Earth because of them. She touched the heart of all she met and took a genuine concern for whoever crossed her path. Often described as a sugar cookie and ‘that’ person everybody loved.Despena and Sam were blessed with four children: Sandy (Poulakidas) Taylor, Greg Poulakidas (Elaine), Elaine (Poulakidas) Bradshaw (Dave), Patricia (Poulakidas) Buckland, She had 4 grandchildren (Trevor, Tara, Tyler and Kylie), 5 step-grandchildren (Leland, Connie, Jenny, Nick and Jennifer), 5 great-grandchildren (Ethan, Madison, Carter, Bronson and Daxton) and 5 step-great grandchildren (Whitney, Clair, Ian, Brynn, Ashlyn, Erik, Stephanie & Danny and their baby Delaney), and a dear loving friend Lori James. They were an immense joy to her. She instilled in her children an appreciation for hard work, honesty, dedication to family, and most of all unconditional love… always the love. Her presence on earth will be greatly missed by all who knew and love her.
